STEAM Summer Camps flourish

Precinct4Forward proudly spent this summer empowering young learners through an enriching eight-week STEAM Summer Program. Designed for elementary-aged children and offered at no cost, the program, hosted at Community Centers across Precinct 4, invites students into the world of science, technology, engineering, art, and math through hands-on, project-based learning. Throughout the summer, children explored activities such as coding, robotics, 3D printing, and digital design, giving them the chance to experiment, create, and explore concepts that spark curiosity and build long-term confidence. 

Beyond introducing advanced technology and creative problem-solving, the STEAM Summer Program plays a vital role in preventing the “summer slide,” a well-documented challenge where students can lose academic skills and knowledge during long breaks from school. By engaging students in consistent, structured learning, the program reinforces core concepts, strengthens critical thinking, and helps students return to school ready to succeed. For many participants, this continuity in learning provides an essential bridge that keeps them on track academically. 

This initiative reflects Precinct4Forward and Harris County Precinct 4’s deep commitment to expanding educational opportunities and investing in the next generation of innovators. Each year, the program serves more than 300 children ages 5 to 13, primarily from low‑to‑moderate‑income communities including Gulfton, Sharpstown, Spring Branch, Katy, and Cy‑Fair. For these young learners, the STEAM Summer Program not only sparks new interests and career pathways—it ensures they maintain valuable knowledge, develop new skills, and access high-quality learning experiences regardless of zip code or economic circumstance.
