Emerging Leaders Lab & Launch
Precinct4Forward’s Emerging Leaders Program takes motivated Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors from Harris County Precinct 4 and gives them something rare: a real, structured pathway into the professional world. It starts with Emerging Leaders Lab, a hands-on introduction where students spend one week building essential workplace skills; communication, professionalism, problem-solving, and a second week shadowing employees at local businesses, seeing firsthand what a career in their field of interest looks like. For students who may have never set foot in an office, clinic, courtroom, or construction site as anything other than a visitor, this is often the moment their future starts to feel real.
Lab began in 2025 with just 20 students, and in 2026, we doubled our number of participants to 40 Emerging Leaders. This year introduced the natural next step: Emerging Leaders Launch, a seven-week paid internship program for students who completed Lab and are ready to put their new skills to work. Ten students piloted the program this year, gaining genuine professional experience, a paycheck, and connections with local employers that many will carry into college applications, job interviews, and beyond. Two programs, one clear trajectory: students don't just learn about the workforce, they step into it.
This is just the beginning, in Summer 2027, Lab will again serve at least 40 students, while Launch is set to double its impact to 20 paid interns working alongside Precinct 4 businesses. Every year, more students get the chance to discover a career path they might never have imagined for themselves, and more local employers get to invest in the next generation of talent right in their own backyard.
